Django Unchained actress, Daniele Watts, reportedly was mistaken for a hooker when L.A cops were called after things got hot and heavy inside Daniele’s boyfriend’s car Thursday.
According to Daniele and her boyfriend, Brian James Lucas, Daniele was initially targeted by police officers for her race when she was simply kissing her partner in his car.
“Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place,” Watts wrote on her Facebook page.
“When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cellphone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away.”
“A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs.” Daniele continued, stating that the handcuffs were allegedly put on so tight that they left her “bleeding in pain.”
Although police didn’t refer to Watts as a prostitute, Lucas stated that he felt police were implying it.
“According to Lucas, the police kept asking, ‘Do you really know her?’ He described their questions as being filled with ‘innuendo.’
When asked what that meant, he said the questions seemed to imply that Watts was a prostitute and he was a client. Lucas said the police never explicitly said that was what they thought, but that was how he felt,” Buzzfeed reported.
The LAPD however has a different story to tell about the rather famous incident.
According to Sgt. Jim Parker, cops were called to the scene after employees of the Art Directors Guild office witnessed the couple having sex in the car with the door open.
Once noticing that the pair was not having intercourse in the car as stated by witnesses, the police decided to let things go and ask for ID as procedure.
It was then when Watts got out of hand, refusing to provide identification and pulling the ‘race card’ on officers. Once Watts began to walk away from officers, police handcuffed her for being too difficult to handle.
‘Why are you in handcuffs,” Sgt.Parker asked Watts in regards to Watts’ boyfriend not being put in handcuffs.
He’s [Lucas] been here this whole time not in handcuffs. Tell me if someone has been disrespectful”.
LAPD has confirmed that they are conducting an internal investigation about the case due to its widespread publicity.
Watts has as well reported to be seeking a lawyer and will be filing a complaint against the LAPD.
A recording of the incident has since been released by TMZ.
