There was a very large chance Chris Pratt would have never made it to our big screen due to being too “chubby”.

Director James Gunn admitted his lack of desire to cast the now fit Chris Pratt as Peter Quill in the up and coming Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. During a press tour to promote their movie at SiriusXm, Gunn opened up about his dissatisfaction with the idea to giving Pratt the leading role.

“Somebody first suggested him to me, I thought, you got to be kidding me. This chubby guy from ‘Parks and Rec’?” Gunn said. “There’s no way I’m going to make that guy the star of my movie.”

Thanks to Pratt’s acting chops and lovable personality, he however quickly changed the mind of the unimpressed director.

“I knew within 20 seconds of his audition this is absolutely the guy. And the truth is, Chris Pratt is the biggest movie star in the world. It’s just people don’t know it yet,” Gunn raved about the “Parks and Rec” actor.

According to sources, this isn’t the first time Chris Pratt has had trouble landing big roles due to not having the “It factor.”  During an interview with EW, the 35-year-old actor revealed that he once auditioned for  “Avatar” and “ Star Trek”, but unfortunately was rejected for not fitting the mold.

“They said they want somebody that has ‘that thing,’ that ‘It factor,’ ” Pratt stated. “I walked into that room knowing that I did not have that thing, and I walked out thinking I would never have that thing.”

According to Director James Gunn however, sometimes some people are meant to represent a certain role, regardless of their appearance.

“Sometimes a role and a person are meant for each other and that’s what I thought this was. I turned to my casting director and said, ‘He’s the guy, chubby or not! If he’s chubby, the world’s going to have to be ready for the first chubby superhero because he’s still gonna be better than all the other people we had!” Gunn told WENN.

Thankfully for fans of the lovable Chris Pratt, Director James Gunn took a chance on the funny actor, giving us the most highly anticipated film this summer.

Guardians of the Galaxy will open in theaters this Friday and is set to release a sequel July 28, 2017.
