True Blood will conclude during its seventh season, HBO confirmed earlier today. The shocking announcement was made after rumors were flying around that the network were wanting to open doors for other upcoming shows.
This has to be the worst news… ever!!! HBO’s network exec Michael Lombardo explained that while True Blood has remained popular among its core audience since its first season in 2008, the decision was made that it was time to close the chapter on the show.
We’re so shocked by this seeing that the program could’ve gone on for at least four more seasons; the ratings were still very strong and the attention each episode received in the media helped it sustain its popularity.
But, we did kind of see this coming as season 6 was shortened down to just ten episodes. The move from 12 to 10 was made not only because of Anna Paquin‘s pregnancy, but also due to the fact that HBO’s budget for the show was too high and they needed to cut it down.
Michael said in a statement today:
“True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificentAnna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey.”
His statement then goes on to say:
“Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”
This so so freaking terrible!! How can they end this show? We’ve gotta remain positive though and realize that it’s better to have a show go out on top than have it end with low ratings, right?
True Blood has been such a great show to watch and to us, we’re absolutely devastated seeing that we watched all six season just last week and became hooked with the storylines.
How gutted are you about this?
