Ian Somerhalder is one selfish actor because by what he said in a recent interview, he doesn’t want The Originals first season to succeed, hoping that it gets taken off the network so people won’t drift away from the Vampire Diaries.

Somerhalder, who was at one point said to be considering leaving the show if he was to land the role of Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey, expressed his feelings to DigitalSpy.

The actor says that though he’s a little happy that the original show has been such a success that they’re now doing a spin-off, he’s worried that fans will eventually stop watching VD and switch to TO, which is a stupid thing to say because a Vampire Diaries fan would most likely watch both shows.

But being the selfish guy that he is, Ian Somerhalder doesn’t wish the cast of the upcoming show any success, though he’s happy for them. Makes no sense, right?

He said in the interview:

“I’m excited for Julie [Plec], and for Joseph and all my people, but I’m a selfish actor – I’m not a producer on the show, I’m not a writer. My only concern is Damon, and my show.”

Ian then goes on to say that some of the characters that were introduced to the fans on Vampire Diaries are now leaving to film the spinoff show which is worrying him because since those actors had really big parts in season four, they’re the most memorable.

In other words, he’s saying that his cast is not interesting enough to carry on the show without the people that have made season four the success that it became.

“Now, they’re going to be taking these characters that mean so much to our show. I’m insanely happy for everyone, but I’m not thrilled. Not that I mind sharing, I just don’t want to lose all these amazing actors on our show.”

We HIGHLY doubt that Vampire Diaries is going to become a flop just because a spin-off version of the show is starting its first season next month. If anything, he should be happy because this could only boost ratings for them.

What do y’all think?! Should Ian Somerhalder be making these stupid and rude comments – he should be wishing them luck and all the best as opposed to throwing them under the bus.

But then again… he’s just being honest, right?
